The original Nano Banana became one of the most talked-about image generation models of 2025 after launching in August. For the sequel, officially named Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, Google took the advanced capabilities of its higher-end Nano Banana Pro and rebuilt them on its Flash architecture. Pro-level intelligence at significantly faster speeds, quicker output without the quality tradeoff that speed usually demands.

What Nano Banana 2 brings to your workflow
Nano Banana 2 can maintain character resemblance across up to five characters and preserve the fidelity of up to 14 objects in a single workflow. Text rendering has taken a serious leap forward, producing accurate, legible type for marketing mockups, social graphics and branded assets.
What that feels like in practice: Reference images hold together better across multiple generations, which is a genuine time-saver when you’re building storyboards, iterating on a brand concept, or generating variations of a scene with consistent characters. Complex prompts with multiple specific requests land more reliably on the first attempt, so there’s less of that regeneration loop where you’re tweaking the same prompt for the fifth time trying to get the model to follow instructions. And Google’s “advanced world knowledge” means the model draws on real-world information to render specific subjects more accurately — infographics, data visualizations and diagrams come out cleaner and more usable.
